Know the Reason behind Worshipping Lord Hanuman on Saturdays

Tuesdays are dedicated to the worship of Lord Hanuman, but Saturdays are considered more significant because of the legend associated with Shani. Here's taking a look at the legend associated with Lord Hanuman.

Have you ever wondered why devotees throng temples dedicated to Shri Hanuman on Saturdays? Well, here's the answer. Devotees worship Lord Hanuman on Saturdays to ward off the ill effects of Shani Devata. And there's a story associated with this belief. Nonetheless, Tuesdays or Mangalvar are also dedicated to the worship of Hanuman brass idol. Still, Saturdays are considered more significant because of the legend associated with Shani.

Here's taking a look at the legend associated with Lord Hanuman and Shani Devata, whom we call Saturn in English.

According to one of the most popular stories, Ravana, the demon-king of Lanka, had become so powerful that he could control the movements of the planets as per his will. During his son Megnad's birth, Ravana wanted his natal chart to be so dominant that he could remain invincible all his life.

However, Shani, who plays a vital role in shaping people's lives, played a trick when Ravana moved him on the birth chart. Hence, Ravana held him captive in a dark prison to punish Shani and hung him upside down. Subsequently, when Shri Hanuman visited Lanka in search of Mata Sita, he could faintly hear the voice of Shani Devata, crying for help.

Brass hanuman idol stepped forward to help Shani in distress and thus rescued him from the clutches of Ravana. Therefore, to thank Shri Hanuman for his humble gesture and return the favour, Shani Devata promised that he would never cast his effects on him. He also said that those who would worship brass hanuman Murti on Saturdays would be relieved of his adverse effects.

What should you do after visiting the temple on a Saturday?

Rise early, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Then, visit the temple and offer sesame oil lamps to Lord Shani and chant the Hanuman Chalisa. You may also sing any other shloka dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

One can worship Hanuman during any day of the week, but Tuesdays are considered more auspicious. Hence, people visit temples dedicated to Hanuman on Tuesdays. One can achieve success, peace, happiness, strength and courage by worshipping him.

Brass hanuman statue, the incarnation of Lord Shiva itself, is worshipped by millions of Hindus across the globe. Son of Anjana and Kesari, Hanuman was born on the full moon day of Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar, celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti or Hanuman’s Birthday.

According to Hindu mythology, Kesari and his wife Anjana were devotees of Lord Shiva and worshipped Vayu, the wind god, for a son as powerful as Lord Shiva. Vayu blessed them, and Lord Shiva himself came into the womb of Anjana, who delivered a son as mighty as God.
